Timing is everything
We almost always shoot around sunrise or the final hour before sunset. The light is soft, warm and forgiving, and locations are quieter. Midday sun is harsh and creates squinting and heavy shadows. Planning around the light is the single biggest thing that separates ordinary photos from stunning ones.
Outfits and small details
Choose two contrasting looks — one traditional, one casual — so your album has variety. Coordinate colours with each other rather than matching exactly, and keep accessories meaningful. Small props like a handwritten letter, a favourite instrument or a shared hobby item add warmth and give your hands something natural to do.
Make a day of it
Some of our favourite shoots are the unhurried ones. Instead of racing between five locations, pick two that mean something and give each of them time. Stop for tea at a roadside stall, walk through a market holding hands, sit quietly by the water as the light fades. When you are not watching the clock, your shoulders drop and the photographs stop looking like photographs — they start looking like memories. We plan a comfortable route so there is always a little room to breathe.
